Facilities

  • Vuda Marina has the largest travel hoist in Fiji and is capable of hauling vessels up to 63 tonnes. Our British-made ‘WISE’ brand of Travel Hoist lifts more than 900 vessels each year and our hardworking staff are some of the most experienced and professional haul out staff in the South Pacific.

Immediately after hauling it may be beneficial for you to take advantage of our high pressure wash, especially if hauling out to anti-foul or for long-term cyclone storage. Rates are based on the length of the vessel.

Our travel hoist ramp is limited to vessels with a beam of 5.85m (19’) and most vessels over 60’ will need to drop their backstay in order to get under our cross beam. It is also recommended to remove or lower any high standing instruments on your stern such as wind generators and radars. Due to a multitude of variables such as keel shape and depth, tide movements, wind strength and direction, and other unforeseen factors, hauling out a vessel can take some time.

Generally a haul out into a cyclone pit takes 1.5-2.5 hours (including pressure wash), while a haul out to the hardstand takes about 1.5 hour (including pressure wash).

Relaunches can take as little as 20 minutes. We will always do our best to haul you at the scheduled time however be prepared for a possible delay of up to half a day.

  • Vuda Marina is the home to Fiji’s ONLY trimaran and catamaran trailer capable of lifting multihulls up to 40 tonnes with a beam of 11 metres or 36 feet. The Roodberg lifting hydraulic trailer was purchased brand new in February 2023.

Now vessel owners can cruise confidently in Fiji knowing that there is a facility to take their vessel out of the water for much-needed repairs and maintenance or simply to store their vessel on the hardstand over the season while they return home to visit friends and family.

The catamaran haul out ramp is exposed to weather conditions such as tide, wind and surge. As safety is our number 1 priority, if it is deemed too windy or there is too much surge, the haul out will be deferred to another day. For this reason, the haul out plans of the owner need to be flexible. If owners are planning to fly out of the country, we suggest that flights are not booked for until after the haul out is complete to allow for unknown delays.

  • Generally, vessels haul out onto our hardstand in order to have works done however some do so for long-term storage as well. There are a variety of very skilled contractors who you can choose from depending on the services you require. These can be found at our contractor’s page.

Vessel owners are permitted to work on their own vessels and we have a basic, shared workshop area for you to use however please note that the yard area at Vuda Marina only allows registered and fully insured contractors to carry out works in the yard. Please do not ask us to allow non-approved contractors into the yard as refusal often offends. A list of approved contractors can be found on our contractor’s page.

Should you need unskilled labourers to assist with basic works such as sanding, scraping paint, polishing, cleaning, hand painting and roller painting then we have a pool of casual labourers that you can use. Rates are FJ$50 per casual for the first 4 hours (the minimum charge per day) and then FJ$10 per hour thereafter. The work will need to be supervised by you and we take no responsibility for workmanship. All materials, equipment and safety equipment will need to be supplied by you. Casual staff are not allowed to use electrical tools.

Working hours on the hardstand are:

    • Monday to Friday – 8am to 6pm

    • Saturday – 8am to 1pm

    • Sunday – Rest Day

These times are strictly enforced to allow for an enjoyable time for those persons residing on their vessels on a permanent basis.

  • MONOHULLS

Vuda Marina has one of the most unique yacht storage systems in the world. We have eighty “cyclone pits” for the safekeeping of your vessel over the cyclone season (1st Nov – 30th Apr).

Your vessel is slowly lowered into the pit and cushioned on either side with tyres. The majority of the weight of the vessel is taken by its keel on the bottom of the pit.

Should a storm occur, this is the safest place to be. You will have no waves to contend with. No other boats will be pushing against you. Just you and your yacht in its own safe refuge. These pits are extremely popular and generally sell out before the end of July.

Advanced bookings are highly recommended. If we are fully booked then it is possible to be placed on our waitlist. On rare occasions there may be a last minute cancellation, so the offer is then extended to the first person on our waitlist. If they have already made plans, then it is offered to the next person and so forth.

Discounts are offered to those who pay in full before the end of March.

    CATAMARANS & TRIMARANS

Multihull vessels are hauled out and strapped down using a ten-point system consisting of concrete anchor points and heavy-duty ratchet straps.

    IN WATER CYCLONE BERTHING

For those wanting to keep their vessel in the water, we offer some of the best cyclone-preventative measures in the South Pacific. Please ask us for a copy of our severe weather preparation plan.

Much reduced rates are available for cyclone pits during Sailing Season (1st May – 31st Oct).
